Shanaka is the founder and head coach of InterviewMD. He has watched the same things cost applicants marks again and again: weak reflection, generic stories, loose structure, rushed delivery and shallow reasoning. The rubric your answers are scored against and the drills in Train come from the way he coaches.

  • Studied medicine at Monash University
  • Author of two medical admissions books
  • 14,000+ hours of one-to-one coaching

“More practice is easy. Knowing exactly what to fix is the advantage.”

The method comes from coaching. Platform lets you practise it independently. Private coaching with Shanaka's team comes with Interview Mastery and the Platinum Program.

The question-by-question tab: the strongest and weakest answers, each scored with feedback

Your prep should tell you what to do next.

Answering random questions feels productive but rarely shows you what to fix. Platform turns every practice answer into a score, a reason and a next step.

Practise

Practise the formats your universities actually use.

Single stations when you have ten minutes, three-station Sets when you have twenty, and full simulations when you want the real thing.

  • MMI, panel, roleplay, written and group-style stations
  • Filter by your target universities, timed or untimed
  • Full MMI circuits, full panels and university-specific mocks
  • Simulations run to the clock, with enforced rest, and end in a verdict: Not yet, Close or Ready
The Practice tab: the next session picked for you with the reason, your Sets and the full catalogue

Answer out loud

Stop preparing interviews entirely inside your head.

An AI interviewer reads each question aloud, reading time counts down, and you answer on camera, the way the interview will actually feel.

  • Voice and video answers, written ones for written stations
  • Real reading time and answer timing
  • AI follow-up questions that build on what you said
  • Group stations with simulated candidates to work with
The camera and microphone check before a session, with the student on camera

Feedback

Every answer becomes feedback.

Each answer is transcribed and scored against the InterviewMD rubric, so you can see exactly where the marks went.

  • Scores for content, structure, presentation and delivery
  • Pace, filler words and pauses measured from your recording
  • Your transcript marked with strong moments and what to fix
  • A stronger rewrite of your own answer, and every session kept in History
A session report: quotes from the answer marked as strengths or to refine, how to say it instead, and a model answer

What to do next

Weak areas become your next session.

Today picks one thing to do next from your recent scores, and tells you why: too many fillers, pace out of range, or your weakest area over your last ten answers.

  • One recommended next step, with the reason
  • Readiness verdict for each format, and weeks to go
  • Sessions, practice time and score, week on week
  • Consistency goals and an activity calendar
Today's next recommended step on the InterviewMD Platform, with the reason it was chosen

Readiness

Know when you're ready, not just busy.

Hours of practice don't tell you whether you're ready. Sit a full mock and each format gets one of three words: Not yet, Close or Ready. Readiness keeps that verdict next to where you are on the road to interview day.

  • A verdict for each format after every full mock
  • Where you are against your interview date
  • This week's sessions and reps, skill by skill
  • How you're tracking across the core competencies
The Readiness page: the verdict per format, where the student is against interview day, this week's reps by skill, and a competency profile

Classroom

Watch Shanaka coach, then practise it yourself.

Recordings of real Interview Mastery classes sit in your Classroom: Shanaka working through questions with a live group of applicants, so you hear the coaching as well as practising it.

  • Recorded Interview Mastery classes, led by Shanaka
  • Module summaries and quizzes alongside each class
  • Your progress tracked, lesson by lesson

Nerves

A platform that understands interview nerves.

Knowing your answers is half of it. Walking in calm is the other half. Before a full mock, a guided breathing exercise settles you in, the same way you'd settle yourself outside the interview room.

  • Four slow breaths: in for four, hold for four, out for six
  • About a minute, and you can skip it any time
  • Practise untimed until you're ready for the clock
The guided breathing exercise before a mock: a slow, expanding circle that says Breathe in, cycle 1 of 4

Universities

Every Australian medical school, timed the way it really runs.

Pick your universities and practise their actual interview: MMI or panel, the number of stations and the minutes on each. All 22 Australian medical schools that interview are set up for a full university-specific mock.

Train

Short on time? Sharpen one skill in two minutes.

Not every day has room for a full station. Train fits into the gaps: between classes, on a lunch break, the night before your interview. Each rep is a minute or two on one habit, and today's three are picked from your own recent answers, with the reason.
