Methodology

Our method, and how we measure it.

The medical interview prep market is full of unverifiable claims. We want our numbers to be auditable. This page explains the coaching method behind InterviewMD, the conviction it rests on, and the methodology behind every statistic we publish.

Our method

InterviewMD is built on the same coaching method our founder Shanaka Jayakody has refined over 15 years, 1,000+ students, and 14,000+ coaching hours. It rests on one conviction: you are already enough. Our job is not to turn you into someone else, but to reveal and amplify who you already are. It is not a generic AI tool wrapped in a medical theme.

The frameworks our coaches use to assess empathy, calibrate pressure questions, structure feedback that actually changes behaviour, and walk students through a strong interview, all of that lives inside the platform. Our AI is trained on those frameworks, the same ones that produced our 92% offer rate. It learns who you are and builds on your own answer, aligning it with proven principles while keeping your authenticity, never writing it for you. When it scores your answer, it is using the rubric our human coaches use, not a generic model guessing what a good medical interview sounds like.

This is human-first coaching, amplified by world-first AI. We never coach a memorised script or a mask, because med schools are no longer fooled by rehearsed, generic answers. Helping you express who you genuinely are, with clarity, confidence, and passion, is the winning strategy, and our results prove it.

Our team's track record

Fifteen years ago, Shanaka walked into every one of his own medical interviews refusing to perform, and received offers from all of them. The wider InterviewMD coaching team holds the same record. Those outcomes, and the conviction behind them, shaped the frameworks the platform now teaches: technique is table stakes, psychology builds self-awareness and regulation, and authenticity, closing the gap between the rehearsed mask and the real self, is the unfair advantage.

How we calculate "1,000+ students placed"

Students personally coached by Shanaka and the wider InterviewMD team over 15 years (2010 to 2025) who went on to receive an offer of admission from a medical school.

Who is counted
Students who completed at least one coaching cycle with our team and subsequently received a confirmed medical school offer.
How we know
Outcomes recorded at the end of each admissions cycle through direct student communication.
Geography
Offers across the UK, Australia, and Singapore.

How we calculate "92% offer rate"

The conversion rate from interview to offer within the cohort above.

Numerator
Students from the 1,000+ cohort who received an offer of admission after attending at least one medical school interview.
Denominator
Students from that cohort who received at least one interview invitation.
Result
Approximately 92% (over 90%).
Window
15 years of coaching outcomes, last reviewed April 2026.

What this number does not mean

  1. It is not an end-to-end admission rate from application to offer. The 92% applies to the interview-to-offer step only.
  2. It is not a guarantee. Past results do not predict individual outcomes.
  3. It does not currently include students using the self-serve InterviewMD platform without coaching. Platform-only outcome data is being collected and will be published separately.
